Operational Officers
Our Operational Officers collect, produce and deliver intelligence in a number of roles. Here you can find out more about the main skills you'll need to join us as an Operational Officer, as well as more detail about the roles. For all of these positions, you will go through the same application process. The process itself will help determine exactly which role you will be most suited to.
THE ROLES
Case Officer: These Officers plan and carry out covert intelligence operations overseas. Working both in London and abroad, they gather the secret intelligence the Government needs to promote and defend UK national interests. It calls for individuals with strong people skills who can influence and persuade others across cultural and linguistic boundaries. If you're bilingual or come from an ethnically diverse background, you'll be welcomed for the particular skills and insights you bring. We are particularly interested in people with skills in Mandarin, Arabic, Dari, Farsi and Pashto.
Targeting Officer: These officers use their analytical skills to build up intelligence pictures of different areas of interest, identify sources and contribute to operational planning. They may be posted overseas. You'll need to have strong influencing skills, as well as the ability to digest large amounts of information and then make sound judgements based on this intelligence.
Reports Officer: These roles, based mainly in London, involve collating, assessing, validating and delivering intelligence to the appropriate people within the Government. Developing expertise in a specific area, these officers represent SIS in Whitehall and discuss future intelligence requirements with Case Officers.
