Steward
Salary - £23,307 plus £1,000 local pay allowance
We're looking for a Steward to serve food and drinks to VIPs who visit us at SIS. Courteous, smart and highly efficient, you'll do everything from helping out in the kitchen to polishing silver, preparing the dining room to serving guests, as well as clearing up afterwards. (Because you'll be working with food, you'll need to have a basic knowledge of Hygiene and Health and Safety Regulations.)
As you'd expect from an organisation that exists to collect intelligence from around the globe on behalf of the Government, we have a large number of foreign guests, so you'll need to be aware of their individual customs and practices and act accordingly. Many of our visitors are very senior individuals, so you should also be someone who is comfortable dealing with people at this level, and possess a friendly yet highly professional demeanour. In addition, complete discretion is absolutely vital. We are, after all, the Secret Intelligence Service.
Ideally, you'll have worked in an environment where you've served food and made guests feel welcome (or you'll have an NVQ 2 in House keeping). You should have knowledge of how a kitchen is organised and understand how dishes are created. You have plenty of initiative, and you're happy to work alone, as well as pitching in with a small but busy team. You're not easily flustered and can take a last minute change of plan, like the sudden arrival of extra guests, in your stride. You'll also need basic first aid training and the willingness to be flexible over working hours.
Join us, and not only will you have the opportunity to be part of a prestigious organisation that's protecting the security of the UK, you'll also be working in very appealing surroundings. In addition, you'll join a close-knit, dedicated team. Your benefits will include a Civil Service pension and 25 days' holiday allowance.
The closing date for applications is 31st August 2010.
