24 January 2019 - New SIS ‘Barbershop Advert’ released on YouTube & Google Display

#secretlywerejustlikeyou

On Thursday 24 January 2019, SIS launch their first ever on-line advertisement on YouTube and Google Display. This campaign, #secretlywerejustlikeyou, began with our first advert on television in May 2018.  Launching on YouTube and Google Display is the obvious next step for SIS, as we continue reaching out to more people who may never have thought of applying to SIS.

Careers in SIS

If you’ve never considered a career in SIS, then you’re probably exactly who we’re looking for. There’s no such thing as a ‘type’ of SIS officer, and while we have always attracted talent, in order to remain one of the best intelligence services in the world, we need to harness talent from the widest possible range of backgrounds and experiences. That could include you.

There are many misconceptions about what it’s like to work for SIS, and the sort of people who work here: you’re all from privileged backgrounds; you can’t balance family or social life with a career in SIS. In fact we are more like you than you think. Many officers balance fulfilling careers with caring commitments, have active social lives and come from a range of educational backgrounds. In late 2018 we actively sought to bust some of these myths, and along with colleagues from GCHQ and MI5 were interviewed by DJ Nihal on BBC Radio 5 Live, if you’ve not heard it yet why not listen – it will probably surprise you.

We are recruiting across a range of roles right now, but the role you are most likely to imagine when you think about SIS is the Intelligence Officer. Working at the front line of our operations, Intelligence Officers are trained to perform four functions over the course of their career:

Operational Managers: plan and manage intelligence collection operations.

Targeters: identify individuals who may have access to secret information and who might be willing to work with us.

Case Officers: cultivate and build trusting relationships with individuals who have access to secret information.

Reporting Officers: validate the intelligence we have collected, issue the reporting to Government customers and ensure that the intelligence we provide is used appropriately.

Interested? Good. We provide the training, but what we look for from you is emotional intelligence, excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity to learn, interest in foreign affairs and cultures, integrity, a team ethos and enthusiasm for working with technology. For all roles in SIS you must hold British nationality (this can include dual nationality), and have spent a significant proportion of the last 10 years living in the UK.

We look forward to hearing from you.
