Death of Sir Alex Younger 1963-2026, 16th Chief of MI6

Sir Alex Younger, who has died aged 62, served as ā€˜C’ from November 2014 to September 2020. Sir Alex enjoyed a 29-year career with MI6, joining in 1991 and retiring after six years as Chief in 2020. 
 
MI6 Chief, Blaise Metreweli said:
 
"It is with immense sadness that I am sharing the news that the former MI6 Chief Sir Alex Younger died today after fighting cancer for some time. Alex embodied my Service's values of integrity, courage, creativity and respect. We remember Alex's deep commitment to public service and the security of the UK. He made a lasting and distinctive contribution to our country and indeed global security. Today my thoughts and those of the whole of MI6 are with Alex's loved ones."
