SIS Says ‘Thank You’ to the First World War Generation

This year’s Poppy Appeal launched Thursday 25 October with a series of installations across the UK to highlight reasons to say “Thank you to the First World War generation, not only the British Armed Forces, but all those who fought alongside them from today’s Commonwealth, the countless men, women and children who played their part on the home front and the pioneer and artists who left long lasting legacies.

In this historic year SIS are also joining the movement to say ‘Thank You’, showing our support by proudly flying this year’s #ThankYou100 flag alongside the flag of The Royal British Legion and our Union flag.

SIS was formed when Prime Minister Herbert Asquith, reacting to popular concern about Germany’s imperial ambitions, ordered the Committee of Imperial Defence to look into the matter, establishing a Secret Service Bureau in 1909.
