The Chief receives his Knighthood from Her Majesty The Queen
In the 2019 Queen’s Birthday Honour’s list, the Chief of the Secret Intelligence Service, Alex Younger CMG, was awarded a Knight Commander of The Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and St George (KCMG) for services to national security.
On 2 July, Her Majesty The Queen conducted the investiture in the Great Gallery at the Palace of Holyrood house, where C was joined by his wife Sarah.
Following the ceremony, Sir Alex said:
“I am truly humbled and proud to receive this honour. To be able to do so in Edinburgh, where my family have such strong ties and memories, was very special. Also being there allowed me to remember and recognise the huge contribution Scots, past and present, have made to the Secret Intelligence Service and the security of the UK.
I’ve been incredibly lucky through-out my time in SIS, to serve alongside and lead some of the most dedicated and creative people in the world – this award is a testament to their work. Our values and our ability to deliver set us apart from our adversaries and I am proud of the small part I have played in our enduring mission.
My family remain the most important part of my life and I’d like to thank them for their patience, support and love, and for enabling me to pursue a career that has given me so much.”
Everyone in the Service is delighted for our Chief and his family.
